FIRST DAY INSTRUCTIONS
-
Parking and proper door: Please pull around to the back of the hotel to park. Enter through the doors facing directly to the BACK of the property. This will take you directly to the pool and will be the only doors unlocked for you.
-
Please arrive 5-10 minutes early. Have your 3 towels ready and wait for instructions from your instructor.
-
Please keep an extra swim diaper on hand if your child wears one.
-
Your instructor will show you where and HOW to setup your towels on the first day. Going forward, please setup during the lesson BEFORE yours so your child is ready to go, seated on their towels at their lesson start time.
-
Your instructor will ask you a series of questions every day. Please answer mindfully - it is important information that we need accurately.
-
Please review the Policies and Guidelines page, especially regarding eating before lessons.
-
Please refrain from using lotions or oils on your child before lessons as it makes their skin very slippery.
-
Please ensure your child’s nails are clipped regularly. Your instructor’s skin is saturated in water for many hours and long fingernails can easily break their skin.
Guardian Aquatics Policies & Guidelines
-
Please bring 3 towels poolside everyday. Two towels will be folded and stacked at the pool edge as a pallet for us to lay your child. The third is the one you will use to cover and dry them.
-
Your lesson is 10 minutes. Please be seated on your towels in a designated poolside spot. Have shoes off and goggles on (goggles for skill builders only.) This should be your ready position at your lesson start time. If you are late your lesson will be shortened.
-
For all babies and toddlers that have not been potty trained for a FULL 6 months, please always have 2 Swim Diapers with a tight fitting seal.
-
Ensure your child has had NO food or drink for 1.5 - 2 hours before lessons. This is a strict policy and we will not be able to teach your little one if they’ve eaten within that time. Keep in mind when choosing your time slot!
-
Remember to minimize dairy before a lesson if possible. (Breastmilk is ok!) Please, NO grapes, apples or watermelon at any time before a lesson.
-
Attendance Policy: ISR and SOMA Swim are programs priced by the acquisition of a skill set. You are paying for the skill set, not a set number of lessons. On average it takes 4-5 weeks, 4 days per week for the skills to be acquired. This allows us time, if lessons are missed, for your child to complete the program. Missed lessons will not be made up or pro-rated. Daily attendance and participation are crucial to the learning and retention of these specialized skills. If, due to inconsistency, (frequent undocumented absences, or chronic tardiness,) your child requires additional daily lessons to become skilled, these lessons will require additional payment. Documented illnesses will be rescheduled based on availability and may require flexibility on lesson times. Scheduled vacations or absences communicated ahead of time will be accommodated on a case by case basis, prior to confirming your enrollment.
-
Credit/Maintenance Policy: Maintenance lessons are recommended at a minimum of 1x per month, after completion of either ISR or SOMA Swim programs. You may book a maximum of 2 maintenance lessons per month.
-
If you are issued credits from SOMA or ISR to be used at a later date for maintenance, said credits will expire 90 days after program completion.
-
Make-up credits from excused absences in SKILL BUILDERS will expire after 21 days.
-
Attendance Policy for Skill Builders & Strokes: If your child wakes up ill on the morning of a lesson, we must be notified immediately, and prior to your lesson, in order for us to offer a make-up lesson at a later date. All make-up lessons are subject to availability. Lack of notification prior to lesson, hereby deemed “no call, no show” will cause said lesson to be forfeited. Last minute cancellations for any reason other than illness or injury will cause the missed lesson to be forfeited. Guardian Aquatics reserves the right to request a doctor’s note at their discretion.
-
Illness Policy: In the event that your child becomes ill during their session, please be aware of the following protocols: Diarrhea, vomiting, and fever should be resolved for 48 hours without use of fever reducing medication before resuming lessons. Any symptoms are to be reported to the instructor BEFORE arrival to the pool area.
-
Photo/Video Policy: Please refrain from taking pictures or videos of lessons UNLESS given permission by an instructor. You may NOT video the entire lesson. Short clips may be taken when indicated by the instructor.
-
Cancellations (by us) will happen. (Pool maintenance, heating/temp control, sanitation issues, facility interruptions, etc) In this case you will receive a text notification as early as possible. A specific make-up day will be offered, or the lesson will be credited to your account for future use, at your convenience.
-
Please arrive early, but no more than 10 minutes early to reduce crowding around the pool. Lessons are back to back, so if you are late, your child will still only have the time remaining in their 10 minute slot.
-
We prefer ONE to TWO adults poolside, per student attending lessons. Siblings are allowed if also receiving lessons. We reserve the right to limit the number of people allowed in to watch a lesson.
-
Please carefully read and follow all safety protocols as assigned during lessons.
-
Please clearly communicate any relevant health history to your instructor, including any new medications, injuries, diagnoses, doctor visits, etc., before and while attending lessons.
-
Please do not allow your child to wear any wearable flotation devices in a swimming pool before, during, or after lessons. This directly contradicts all of the methodology we are teaching and will forfeit your skill-set guarantee. Coast guard approved life jackets are to be work on boats, and on open water.
-
Please wait to practice swimming/floating skills with your child outside of lessons until you have attended a parent lesson with your instructor and have been shown how to do so.
-
Please refrain from using lotions or oils on your child before lessons as it makes their skin very slippery.
-
Please ensure your child’s nails are clipped regularly. Your instructor’s skin is saturated in water for many hours and long fingernails can easily break their skin.
TO SWIM OR NOT TO SWIM?
My child is unwell… Now, what?
Fever: The child must be fever free without medication for a minimum of 48 hours. Temperature parameters: Rectal, ear, forehead of 100.4* or higher. Oral of 100* or higher. Armpit of 99* or higher.
Vomiting/Diarrhea: No lessons until 48 hours have passed since last occurrence.
Constipation: No lesson if no BM for 72 hours.
Vaccinations: No lesson on same day after a vaccination, however, children ages 4-6 years may have a lesson within 12 hours of receiving a vaccination, provided they have already had at least one dose of the vaccine with no side effects. Stuffy Nose/ Congestion: The child needs to be able to breathe through their nose with their mouth closed in order to attend a lesson.
Runny nose: OK to swim if clear mucus, and normal energy/activity level.
Eye discharge: May swim 48 hours after cleared.
Undiagnosed rash: no lesson until diagnosed/clear.
Ear Infection: If middle ear, the child may swim after 24 hours on antibiotics. If Swimmers Ear (Outer ear), there is NO SWIMMING until resolved.
Head Injury: Medical review needed to resume lessons
Severe Allergy: Epipen must be poolside for every lesson. No lesson if Epipen is not available. Lesson will not be made up.
Respiratory symptoms: If medications are required for wheezing or severe coughing, we require a 72 hour wait before returning to lessons.
HFM/Coxsackie and Impetigo: These illnesses are very contagious and can spread in the water, as well as to your instructor. All sores, rash, and discharge must be 100% clear before returning to swim. Doctors clearance may also be requested. This protocol is true for any other contagious illness that involves sores and rash.
**If your child seems more tired than usual, or “just not himself/herself”, it may be best not to swim that day. Remember, we want your child at their best in the water. Your child will benefit more from missing a lesson when they are not well than they will from swimming when they are sick! If you are unsure of whether or not your child should swim on a particular day, please contact us and we will discuss what is best for your child.
If your child starts a new medication, has new recommendations from pediatrician, or has an ER visit, your instructor MUST be notified prior to the lesson.
Weather Policy and Procedure
-
Thunder/Lightning: No lesson for 30 minutes after last strike (must be >9 miles away). I use the NOAA App to determine the distance of the lightning from our location. We will resume when lightning is greater than 9 miles away. This is the same even if we are swimming in an INDOOR POOL.
-
For any extreme weather, in any season, we will follow local government advisements, and any school closures. (Ex. Snow days/ice roads, hurricane warnings, etc.)
-
For an outdoor pool, lessons will be cancelled if the air temperature is below 60 degrees, or heavy rain, high winds, or other potentially dangerous conditions have been reported in the area within a minimum of 30 minutes of the lesson time.
-
If the pool is closed for any length of time, we will send you a text that will let you know when it will reopen or if is closed for the day. Please reply to the text so that we know you received the message. These lessons will be made up.
